traveling ecuador

Starting at the capital of Quito stretching to each corner of the country, Ecuador has endless beauty to offer. The highlands in the North, Amazon rainforest to the East, the coast on the west, the Galapagos Islands, and everything in between all offer countless adventures to be had. Many of our volunteers have extended their own trips in addition to the volunteer trip. We recommend traveling after the volunteer portion so you are fresh and energized to work with us!

Oh, the places we’ve been!

Recommended places to see from past volunteers

  • Cuenca

A city located in southern Ecuador’s Andes mountains. Famous for it’s crafted Panama hats, cobblestone streets and cathedral, it is one of Ecuador’s most charming cities. It is also a popular location for foreigners to retire. You can get here by flying into the city’s airport or bus!

  • Quito

Sitting at an altitude of 2,850 meters, Ecuador’s capitol is situated in the foothills of the Andes mountains. Built on the foundations of an ancient Incan city, Quito is filled with cathedrals, city squares, markets and bustling city life. Quito has one of the country’s international airports.

  • Amazon Rainforest

The world’s largest tropical rainforest expands some of it’s biodiversity into the Northeast portion of Ecuador. Filled with incredible wildlife and winding rivers, we recommend taking a guided trip to soak up all of it’s beauty.

  • Galapagos Islands

A collection of islands created by volcanos rising from the ocean, this corner of the world is unlike any other place that exists. From hiking the islands and volcanos, to scuba or snorkeling in the ocean there is so much adventuring to do!

  • Banos

About a three hour drive from Quito, Banos is a city surrounded by hot springs and waterfalls. Pack your hiking books and get ready for an (possibly very wet) adventure when you visit this city!

  • Puerto Lopez

On the Western coast of the country, this village is known for its fishing! You can easily take a day trip to Isla de la Plata, known as the “Poor Man’s Galapagos”, to see a variety of local wildlife. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway in a quaint beach town with friendly people, look no further!
